As we have gained much more experience with customer feedback reagarding our Natural Latex mattresses, many of the interaction we have customers involves the issue of pain and chemical sensitivity, and the struggles people have trying to find a mattress that provides true relief.
Many of our customers suffer from fibromyalgia, and other vague or undiagnosed neurological syndromes, many involving extreme sensitivity to chemical smells, and exposure to VOC’s (volatile organic compounds, such as those found in petroleum based memory foam beds) as well as other compounds. Our Natural Latex beds, since they are botanically derived, and which contain a water based adhesive rather than formaldehyde glues, seem to offer hope as well as relief for a number of our customers.
In concert with the unique elastic , giving and yielding qualities that Natural Latex offers for pressure point reduction and weight distribution, the fact that it is a hypoallergenic material (resistant to dust mites, mold, mildew, fungal organisms, etc) adds additional over all benefit to many people, who need both “mechanical” benefit as well as a chemical free surface to sleep on.
Many symptoms that our customers experience, that mysteriously disappear after getting rid of their synthetic mattress, most certainly relate to smells, off-gassing, and vapors that, even in small almost undetectable quantities, can be extremely irritating, even painful to some individuals. I have spoken to customers who cannot even enter a conventional mattress store because within seconds they begin to experience respiratory issues because of “fumes” and “offgassing”.
Many of our customers have enjoyed pain relief as a result of the “cush factor” and buoyant nature of Natural Latex, but we think that a lot of the relief also has to do with the chemical free aspect of the beds. We’re not suggesting that all mattresses containing synthetic materials are spilling deadly fumes into your bedroom, but folks with extreme sensitivities can experience headaches, body aches, and other kinds of pain, merely by being exposed to the smallest amount of very subtle odors. If you’ve ever known someone who is sensitive to perfume smells, you can relate to the complaints of severe headaches and nausea, or even muscular pain, brought on by evenwhat would be considered virtually undetectable odors to others.
