The author starts out pondering whether or not you have to choose between your life and the life of the planet. That sounds a little dramatic to me. Why do you have to choose? Many people who praise the benefits of 100% botanically derived latex mattresses end their praise with a “but synthetic latex made with petrochemicals is cheaper.”
When comparing 100% natural latex with synthetic latex made with petrochemicals you simply are not comparing the same product. 100% naturally derived latex mattresses are antimicrobial, antibacterial, dust mite free, and resist mold and mildew. In addition, people who look at price when making a decision need to look at the big picture. Natural latex is the most durable type of latex – meaning that it will last much longer than synthetic latex and, in the long haul, be more cost effective. Think beyond the initial purchase price when looking at synthetic versus natural latex. There is simply no comparison. 100% natural latex is the only way to go.
