Our Pure Latex is 100% botanically derived and contains zero synthetic material, petroleum based products, volatile organic compounds, or formaldehyde. Many web sites and retailers will claim that either Dunlop latex, or Talalay latex, contains at least some ingredients that are not natural.

This is incorrect information and unfounded. In fact, the only ingredient which is added when the liquid latex is being prepared for solidification during the vulcanizing process are soaping solutions to help emulsify the latex to make it water soluble during the process. After vulcanization, all of our latex cores, the building blocks for all of our latex products, are rinsed and squeezed (literally wrung out) three times with drinkable water. This removes all of the water soluble soaping agents, just like when you rinse you hands after washing with hand soap.

What is left is pure unadulterated latex. Many companies selling so-called "natural latex" mattresses at seemingly low, discounted prices are often in fact using adulterated blended or synthetic latex- which is made using SBR (styrene butadiene rubber) may be used, which is a petroleum based product, mixed with either little or no pure latex rubber.

The compound is often used in combination with pure latex rubber, but this dilution always dampens the performance of latex rubber, reducing it's elasticity, causing the material to dry out and break down faster, and it dramatically reduces the cost of the compound so manufacturers of rubber based products can make more money.

Here are the certification documents for both our Pure Dunlop Latex Rubber, and our Pure Talalay Latex, both certified by third party organizations certifying the materials as having no contaminants, and being strictly composed of pure latex rubber. See documentation below.

Please note that we use Talalay Global's Pure, Natural Talatech, not the blended Talatech, or the synthetic SBR material. This is noted on our certification below.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certification (Latex Material)

The OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certification, also referred to as 'Confidence in Textiles', is a prestigious independent certification that verifies ingredients are free from harmful substances. OEKO-TEX® certifies that the natural latex in Habitat Furnishings mattresses is free from allergenic dyes, pesticides, chlorinated phenols, heavy metals, formaldehyde, chloro-organic carriers, has a pH that's not harmful to the skin, and meets the other strict OEKO-TEX® human and ecological safety requirements. Our fabricating facilities utilize botanically derived latex that is OEKO-TEX Certified

Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the world's premier processing standard for organic textiles. The GOTS standard defines strict human safety, environmental safety, and social criteria standards for the entire textile supply chain and production process. All chemicals and dyes that are used throughout the entire production process must meet stringent environmental and toxicological criteria.

Eco Institute Certification

The Eco Institute is a specialized organization with stringent standards that tests and examines products to determine their pollutants and emissions. The Eco Institute tests for an extensive list of chemicals including: formaldehyde, VOCS (volatile organic compounds), heavy metals, pesticides, phthalates, and many other potentially harmful chemicals. Our  Pure Latex mattresses have met and surpassed the Eco Institute standards of excellence and safety.

CertiPUR-US® Certified Foam

The CertiPUR-US® seal is your assurance that any synthetic foam in your Habitat Furnishings Hybrid Mattress, our Regal Tranquility Mattress, and our line of Habitat Digital Air Bed Systems, have  been tested and certified by an independent laboratory to meet specific criteria for physical performance, indoor emissions and environmental stewardship. CertiPUR-US is a certification that verifies that all synthetic foam we utilize is free of ozone depleters, heavy metals, prohibited phthalates, BPDE (polybrominated diphenyl ethers), formaldehyde, and meets standards for low VOC emissions.

Certified Organic Cotton In Outer Coverings

High levels of agrochemicals are used in the production of non-organic, conventional cotton. In fact, cotton production uses more pesticides and chemicals per unit area than any other crop. Organic cotton is beneficial for those who have chemical sensitivities or who want to decrease their exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. Organic cotton also feels softer than conventional cotton because the cotton fibers are left intact and not broken down by the chemicals used in processing non-organic cotton. Because we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping, surrounded by our sheets and bedding, we at Habitat Furnishings strongly believes that it is important use organic materials whenever possible.  Our Pure Latex mattresses, our Habitat Latex Hybrid, and our Regal Tranquility Mattress are made using organic cotton in our outer coverings to insure that you are receiving the safest possible sleep surface available.

We've earned our great reputation by fostering trust with our customers. We don't make any unfounded claims - the safety of our products is backed up by third party certifications, and we are re-certified regularly to be in compliance with their exceptional standards. The Better Business Bureau, which monitors ethical business behavior and protects consumers, rates companies on an A+ through F grade scale. We're proud to have an A+ rating, the highest possible rating from the BBB. At Habitat Furnishings, customer satisfaction is central to everything that we do, and the relationship of trust we have with our customers is something we take very seriously.

Proudly Made in the U.S.A.

All Habitat Furnishings mattresses are hand crafted in the USA with the world's finest domestic and imported natural materials in our fabrication facilities located in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Lansing, Michigan, and Tampa, Florida. By designing and manufacturing our own proprietary mattresses here in America, we are able to oversee every step of the process to ensure that our mattresses are the highest quality available, as well as provide jobs to workers here in the US.

Habitat Furnishings is able to cut out the middleman and give you the world's highest quality mattress for the same price our competitors are selling lower quality mattresses for. Engineering and manufacturing our own mattresses also gives us a level of expertise that mattress resellers simply can't obtain. Additionally, manufacturing the highest quality mattresses allows us to offer the best industry warranties- our 20 Year Manufacturer's Guarantee on virtually all of our beds, and our 10 Year Warranty on our Habitat Hybrid Mattress.

All of our mattresses are required by Federal Law to meet and pass FR 1633 Flammability Testing. Instead of using toxic, spray on chemicals such as Boric Acid, we use a barrier material which is attached to the underside of the top of the outer covering, as well as the sides, and is lightweight and breathable, so it does not interfere with the feel of the mattress, and also keeps the mattress from sleeping hot. The material we use is Cellulose, a natural fiber derived from wood pulp. When finely spun into a dense weave, it successfully forms a fire barrier capable of withstanding the strict standards required by licensed testing labs. In order to carry a "Federal Fire Tag", our mattresses must use barriers that pass these stringent tests. We're excited that we can offer a chemical free, non-toxic fire barrier fabric with our mattress lineup. Click the link below to view the certification documents.

We do not use formaldehyde or volatile organic compounds in any of our production adhesives. Unlike most foam bedding manufacturers, our adhesive is a water based material that is made using natural rubber, and is completely non-toxic, does not off gas fumes, and is free of PBDE's, heavy metals, and other noxious materials. Here is the link to view the Material Safety Data Sheet for the adhesive, called Simalfa.
